RADIO STATIONS JOIN GROCERY CHAIN TO FEED THE HUNGRY
Virginia Beach, Va. (November 12, 2008) – Entercom Norfolk radio stations WWDE-FM (2WD), WPTE-FM (94.9 the Point), WNVZ-FM (Z104) and WVKL-FM (95-7 R&B) are teaming up with Farm Fresh Food and Pharmacy to “Feed the Hungry” for Thanksgiving.
In response to the Food Banks of Southeastern Virginia and the Virginia Peninsula’s urgent need for food expressed by spokespersons for both organizations on the radio this morning, the stations have rallied with community partner, Farm Fresh, and have begun a campaign to fill the deficit being experienced by these charities. There is at present a shortage of 1.1 million pounds of food at the Food Banks which equates to 894,309 meals in Hampton Roads.
Commenting on the campaign, Entercom Norfolk Vice President/Market Manager, Jeff Brown, said, “Hunger is a deplorable human tragedy and sadly it exists here in Hampton Roads. We consider it our duty to help the Food Banks that serve our community and we are honored that Ron Dennis, the president of Farm Fresh, has dedicated the resources of his 47 stores to helping our 4 stations make certain that every man, woman and child in Hampton Roads has Thanksgiving dinner and that the Food Bank shelves remain stocked.”
The “Feed the Hungry” food drive will continue through Thanksgiving. Interested persons can drop their non-perishable food donations off in the bins located in every area Farm Fresh store.
